Over the course of a long, stormy night in September of 1814, Francis Scott Key witnessed the horrible bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British.  He was in awe as the dawn broke the following day and he saw the American flag still waving over the fort.  He was inspired to write the poem "Defense of Fort McHenry" which would later be renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner."  At the core of the American Spirit lies the hope that even after our darkest and most desperate hour we will still stand strong at the dawn.  This piece embodies that very feeling.  This truly is this family's darkest hour.  A tiny girl who doesn't understand will ask"Where's Daddy?" and a little boy will carry the burden of being the "man" of the house on shoulders too small for the task.  This incredible mother has the daunting task of raising her children alone while putting together the pieces of her heart.  All this sacrifice was the cost this family paid for freedom.  We must honor the heroes who have given their lives in the defense of liberty by bringing hope to the heroic families who have sacrificed all for our country.  We must help them through their darkest hours... we must help them hold on, til...
